Just over a year ago, I wanted to give my husband the gift of going to see a play at the Stratford Festival here in Ontario. I'd bought the tickets in advance so we could go see the play, and prayed that everything would work out for us to go later in the season.
The thing is, things weren't looking so good. My husband's student loans didn't come in in time... we didn't have a credit card and without a car, we couldn't get to Stratford to see the show.
I turned to a community that (I thought) would understand the idea of asking for what you truly want from life. What happened almost broke me.
A woman attacked me for daring to ask for help in the first place, and told me that my idea was a waste of time and money and that I basically had misplaced my priorities. I was so upset that I deleted my post, and cried ....
Then, something happened. Someone who had seen my post, and who had seen this woman's vitriolic attack, came out and said "You need a car to get there? You can borrow my car, enjoy the day with your family, and bring it back to me." This was someone who had never met me (or my family) before. Someone who sincerely wanted to help me make a (small but important) dream come true.
I learned, that day, that sometimes, you have to be vulnerable and ask for the things you want. Because, if you don't ask ... well, you don't get it... but if you do... you just might! :)
With those thought in mind, I'd love for you to share what it is you want or need help with. We have so many connections to each other, it's possible that someone will read your request and say "I can help with that!"
